4th Cumbe San Agustín Film Festival kicked off with a record number of 116 films in competition

Cumbe San Agustín Film Festival began last Sunday at the Teatro Alameda in Caracas with
a historic edition that brings together 116 films in competition, a
notable increase compared to 66 in 2024.

Mijares, director of 100% San Agustín, who highlighted the diversity of the
exhibition between feature films and short fiction and documentary films, as well as the incorporation of student works into the
competition.
He also highlighted that the film
festival, born in the parish of San Agustín, is expanding this year to
seven parishes in Caracas with screenings in partnership with cultural organizations.
In addition, he specified that the official selection includes 8 fiction features; 29
fiction shorts; 19 documentary shorts; 35 student fiction shorts and 17 student
documentaries, as well as special children's film and international films.
The Turkish ambassador to Venezuela, Aydan Karamanoglu, who accompanied the event, celebrated his country's support for the festival and announced the screening of the award-winning Turkish film Wheat Grain.
The 2025 edition will also award the CNAC-Cumbe San
Agustín Award and will pay tribute to documentary filmmaker Carlos Azpúrua, teacher Aquiles
Báez and posthumously to filmmaker Luis Alberto Lamata and outstanding manager María Teresa “Maite” Galán.
The president of the National Cinemateca, Wladimir Sosa, described
Cumbe as the most important film festival in Caracas due to its
community roots and commitment to Venezuelan cinema, while filmmakers such as
Oscar Reyes Matute invited the public to join the cultural
activities that will take place in allied theaters and spaces in different areas of the city.
