On January 8, 1959, Commander Fidel Castro Ruz entered Havana, sealing the victory of the Cuban Revolution, after defeating the regime of Fulgencio Batista.

Commander Castro declared the victory of the Rebel Army over the troops of the Batista government, who resigned the presidency of Cuba and fled to the Dominican Republic.

“I think this is a decisive moment in our history: tyranny has been overthrown. The joy is immense. And yet, much remains to be done. We are not fooling ourselves into believing that in the future everything will be easy; perhaps in the future everything will be more difficult,” Castro said.

This historic event opened a path of equality, social justice, becoming a sovereign republic for the benefit of its people and in solidarity with the nations of the world.

Since this Cuban emancipatory process, the United States has repeatedly tried to undermine the dignity of the Caribbean people. 66 years after this heroic feat, Cuba stands and is an example of struggle for all of Latin America.
