The mayor's office of the Independencia municipality of the state of Anzoátegui, in alliance with the private company Circla, inaugurated a recycling plant located in the El Modulo sector of Ciudad Orinoco.
The project, developed as part of the municipal environmental agenda and within the framework of the Mother Earth Mission, becomes the central infrastructure for waste management in that municipality in the southern part of the state.
Regarding the recycling plant, Mayor Hernán Rodríguez explained that the facilities, which are more than 2,000 square meters long, are designed to receive, classify and compact the useful material that is removed from the riverbanks and from the different sectors.
With a monthly collection capacity of 90 to 120 tons of materials (plastics, cardboard, metal and glass), the plant has compactors, collection trucks and trimoto units, in addition to generating nearly 30 jobs.
He stressed that in addition to receiving the collection carried out by the communes and a team of volunteers who clean up the banks of the Orinoco River, this center buys the useful material that the communities classify,
The long-term plan is to be able to export this material, announced the mayor, recognizing that this institutional activity combines environmental recovery with resource generation and educational training, setting a precedent in the ecological management of the Independencia municipality.
Rodríguez specified that part of the resources generated by this activity will be reinvested in educational projects and programs of constant equipment for sanitation brigades and communes.
