Representing the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Free Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterated its defense of sustainable development, equity and the right to development, during its participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is being held in Azerbaijan.
In Baku, the Minister of People's Power for Ecosocialism, Josué Lorca, spoke on behalf of the regional integration block at the 61st Session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the 61st Session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), where he reiterated support for the implementation of the Convention and the Paris Agreement.
Lorca stressed that “we must advance sustainable development and the fight against poverty, work for our peoples, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals”, and the ALBA-TCP countries will continue to insist “on the need to provide new, additional, predictable climate finance that responds to differentiated commitments between developed and developing countries,” he cites a press release from the ministerial body.
The Venezuelan minister emphasized that the block of nations is constantly working for an inclusive and participatory multilateralism, which provides constructive responses to achieve the desired objectives, which is to preserve and care for Pachamama.
