Alberto Müller Rojas: Master in critical, rebellious and transformative thinking (+birth)

On August 9, 1935, in the state of Táchira, Alberto Müller Rojas was born, who was the first Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). Known for his high-ranking military impetus, he left an exemplary revolutionary ferment that many times in history marked his mark on the National Armed Forces, a key phenomenon for understanding the Bolivarian Revolution itself.

Müller Rojas entered the Military Academy at the age of 15, where he managed to complete his studies. On January 23, 1958, he participated, as a low-ranking soldier, in the conspiracy against the dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez, and achieved his objectives.

In 1978, he was promoted to Major General of the Army and was also appointed undersecretary of the Permanent Council for Security and Defense. He was a professor at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and at the Simon Bolivar University (USB). In 1983 he became Comptroller General of the National Armed Forces (FAN, currently FANB).

Early in political life, he advised left-wing presidential candidates, the People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and the Radical Cause (Cause R). In 1994, General Müller Rojas was elected Senator of the National Congress for Cause R.

His break with Cause R occurred in 1997, due to the attitude adopted against the candidacy of Supreme Commander Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, and it was there that Müller Rojas participated in the formation of the Patria Para Todos (PPT) party. He later joined the group that supported Chávez's candidacy.

In 1998, he was selected as Chief of Commander Chávez's Campaign Command for the presidential elections. With the rise to power of the Leader of the Bolivarian Republic in 1999, Müller Rojas returned to active military service and was part of the Presidential General Staff. He was appointed Venezuelan ambassador to Chile until June 23, 2000.

He played an important part in history as one of the protagonists of the Bolivarian Revolution. The general had the total confidence of Commander Chávez, he was present in the defense of the revolutionary government at all key moments, such as the coup d'etat of April 2002 and the oil strike of December 2002 and January 2003.

At the beginning of 2008, he was appointed by Commander Chávez as first vice-president of the PSUV and in 2009 as Head of the Strategic Command for the Campaign for Constitutional Reform.

On several occasions, Chávez cited him and recognized him as a guide on the convoluted path of politics and in the fight for respect for the country. General Müller Rojas himself once stated: “I will always play music to the lyrics that Chávez writes.”
