The
designated ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Bolivarian Republic of
Venezuela, Glivânia Maria de Oliveira, arrived this Friday in Caracas to complete the corresponding accreditation process.
The
Brazilian official was greeted at Simón Bolívar International Airport in
Maiquetía, in the state of La Guaira, by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
for Latin America, Rander Peña, who welcomed her and confirmed her commitment to work together to strengthen bilateral relations.
Last
November, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela granted an agrément
to the diplomat to occupy the position of Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Brazil to the South American nation.
De Oliveira was
Consul General in Boston (2015-2018), Ambassador to Panama (2018-2022) and
Representative of Brazil as a guarantor country at the Peace Dialogue Table between the Colombian
government and the National Liberation Army (2023).
The appointment
of Glivânia Maria de Oliveira ended almost four years of
diplomatic rupture between Brazil and Venezuela driven by the government of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro.
Venezuela
has already had an accredited ambassador to Brazil since May 2023, when
diplomat Manuel Vadell handed over his credentials to President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.
The ceremony preceded the visit of
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to Brasilia, the first since 2015.
