The permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN), Samuel Moncada, denounced that the United States government has affirmed that the future of the hemisphere belongs to it, with the application of the Monroe Doctrine in the 21st century.

“The world must know that the threat is not Venezuela, the threat is the current United States government,” he said in his speech at the Emergency Session requested by Venezuela in the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), to evaluate US aggressions.

“We requested this meeting aware that the United States government will not allow this body to approve a decision that would put a stop to its sinister plan. The world should know that last November the United States government was the only one that prevented an agreement by this Security Council to condemn attacks on civilians on the high seas, as well as to call for detente, dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.

It also reaffirmed Venezuela's position in defense of its sovereignty and international law. “The United States government is preventing the Security Council from fulfilling its mandate. Because it's not just about Venezuela, but about a continental ambition,” he stressed.

“The U.S. government claims as its own the largest oil reserve in the world, which would be one of the greatest acts of plunder in human history,” he said.

Mocada said that “this is an absurd statement that confirms that there is no limit to the addiction of the United States government to oil, and that all the excuses previously used in relation to our country have been part of a smokescreen. It is a plan of conquest and colonization that has no place in this century.

“It requires us to give up our heritage and our country in exchange for American troops not shooting at our people,” he said.

Moncada noted that the conduct of the United States against the Venezuelan people, “now includes a series of unreported military incursions into the flight information region of Venezuela, thus attempting to manufacture a war provocation against the country.”

He also indicated that the United States seeks to have its propaganda apparatus presented to the world as the one attacked, in order to initiate an armed conflict.

“The majority of the people of the United States reject any attempt at war with Venezuela and demand an end to aggression in repudiation of the destructive ideology of endless wars,” he said.
