The National Assembly (AN) approved in the first discussion the Bill for the Partial Reform of the Organic Law of the Special Jurisdiction of Communal Peace Justice.

In the presentation of the project, the deputy Juan Carlos Sierra, stressed that the foundations of the Republic and democracy must be deepened, so this project “is fundamental to the democratic aspirations of this country”.

He explained that the law was enacted in 2012 and now a reform is being proposed to make it more effective and efficient in its application, as well as to seek new forms and mechanisms for peaceful and democratic coexistence in each of the communal spaces and communities.

Sierra explained that it is proposed to reform a total of 17 articles that have been worked with the National Executive and the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

He added that the parliamentary initiative is aimed at advancing the transformation of the justice system.

“This law, fellow deputies, will allow us to resolve problems and conflicts that may very well be addressed directly from the community without encouragement, with the precise intention that this can be prosecuted,” he stressed.
