The Anti-Imperialist Alliance of the Global South, based in Sri Lanka, has called on the United Nations to intervene immediately in the face of the military threat that the United States maintains against Venezuela.

In a communication addressed to Secretary General António Guterres, the organization's coordinator, Uvindu Wijeweera, pointed out the need for urgent measures to preserve peace and avoid an escalation of tensions that would compromise regional stability.

The statement warns that Washington's actions threaten Venezuelan sovereignty and jeopardize the security of Latin America. The alliance urged the international body to defend international law and prevent any attempt at armed confrontation.

Venezuela, under the leadership of the Bolivarian government and with the support of the civic-military union, is facing naval blockades and threats of aggression that aim to appropriate its natural resources.

At the UN Security Council, Venezuelan Ambassador Samuel Moncada denounced that his country is the main objective of a broader plan of the United States, which ignores international norms and carries out illegal operations in the Caribbean and the Pacific under the pretext of combating drug trafficking. Moncada stressed that Washington's refusal to present evidence of these actions reveals their criminal nature and arouses rejection by the international community.
