On Monday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) resumed operations at its largest natural gas processing plant after an attack that forced the shutdown of this key facility last week to cover a large part of domestic demand, Bloomberg reported.

This is the only operational liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the country, located on the island of Das, in the Persian Gulf and operates at very low levels due to the impossibility of exporting supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route through which about 20% of all the oil and gas traded in the world circulates, whose passage is interrupted.

The media informant indicated that the installation, capable of producing six million tons of gas per year, has not been completely stopped to allow rapid reactivation as soon as the strait reopens, Russia Today (RT) published on its website.

Energy assets across the Persian Gulf are at constant risk due to the current conflict in Western Asia, which forced major producers to cut back on oil pumping and stop refineries, in addition to causing “extensive damage” to the world's largest LNG export plant in Qatar.

Adnoc Gas Plc, operator of the Habshan plant and the Das Island complex, reported temporary operational adjustments in LNG production due to maritime traffic disturbances in Hormuz.

The resumption of the Habshan plant, together with the supply of fuel from Qatar through the Dolphin gas pipeline, keeps the UAE's domestic gas network fully supplied, the report details.
