The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in Argentina issued an institutional alert regarding the possible cessation of operations of its health centers, due to the fact that the neoliberal government of Javier Milei has not transferred the funds corresponding to the operational operation so far in the year 2026.
In this regard, they add that this interruption in the flow of resources jeopardizes the continuity of free medical care and the training of professionals in the Argentine capital.
Marcelo Melo, director of the Hospital de Clínicas, described the institution's financial situation as critical, pointing out that the lack of budget prevents the purchase of basic medical supplies and essential medicines. He also stressed that budgetary paralysis directly affects the payment of professional fees, compromising the stability of one of the most important health centers in the country.
For his part, the vice-rector of the UBA, Emiliano Yacobitti, denounced that the Undersecretary for University Policies admitted the absence of transfers only after pressure from public demands.
Yacobitti urged the Executive Branch to normalize the sending of funds immediately, stressing that compliance with current law is essential to guarantee the right to health of thousands of patients.
The university community and the health sector remain in a state of mobilization waiting for an official response to ensure the operability of hospitals. If the allocation of resources is not resolved in the short term, UBA authorities warned that the reduction of services will be inevitable, negatively impacting the national public health system.
