The Táchira Cattle Farmers Association (ASOGATA) announced the start of its 70th Livestock Fair starting this Friday, January 9th, which will last four weeks, and 80 livestock farms and 750 high-quality specimens from the national agricultural sector will participate.
The president of ASOGATA and the Venezuelan National Federation of Cattle Farmers (FEDENAGA), Edgar Medina, stressed that Venezuelan genetics has reached levels of excellence that make it unnecessary to import specimens for exhibition.
“They asked us to participate from Colombia but we must take our hats off to the national farmer. We have the best quality of Brahman, Guzerat, Nelore, Gyr and our Carora cattle, a stronghold of milk and meat production in the tropics,” he said.
The fair serves as a showcase to show the muscle of a sector that does not stop. In the national scenario, the ranking of agricultural production positions the following states as the pillars of supply.
In this sense, the state of Zulia is the absolute leader as the first producer of meat and milk. Táchira consolidates its position as the second largest producer of milk and the fifth producer of meat. Barinas is in third place in the national production scale and Guárico remains firm in fourth position.
The program starts this Friday, January 9, with the Gastronomic and Commercial Fair. Medina highlighted milestones such as the Megavalid of Team Penning with more than 520 teams confirmed -a national record- and the Bufalina Fair on January 23 with 200 animals.
The closing ceremony will be the Livestock Expo starting on January 28, which will include Jorge Guerrero's concert on the 30th.
For his part, the Secretary General of the Government, Giovat Huérfano, stressed that the stands have sold out since November, which augurs a resounding success. “Despite attempts to paralyze the country, we are obliged to move forward. We guarantee total security for the 150 events planned at the San Sebastian Fair,” he said, mentioning that even international cycling teams confirmed their attendance at the Vuelta al Táchira.
The General Director of the San Cristóbal Mayor's Office, Juan Rodolfo Martínez, emphasized that the fair is investment and hope for the local economy, from the hotelier to the street vendor. “We turned Táchira into the center of Venezuela; the fair boosts the economy and the well-being of the people,” he said.
