On Friday afternoon, January 16, the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, stated that “what has happened in Venezuela has surprised the world.”

This was stated at the Meeting of the Network of Jurists, held in the city of Caracas, where he added that “I trust in the prompt release of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. We are in a decisive battle and Venezuela is the vanguard in the preservation of international law.”

The Attorney General added that “if anyone believes that what happened on January 3rd can lead to April 11th 2002, remember that there was an April 13th. I was a victim of fascism on April 12, with immunity as President Nicolás Maduro has, so I cannot be prosecuted either inside or outside of Venezuela.” In that regard, he added that “we came from that fight that April, let no one doubt the resilience of this people.”

He added that “the day they kidnapped Nicolás Maduro, they also took Cilia Flores and both have the same attitude: courageous, heroic, dignified, united in love and in the Revolution.”
