The Australian government denied a visa to Simcha Rothman, a member of the Israeli parliament, for the extreme right Religious Zionism party. During the visit to the country, it planned to participate in two public events in Sydney and Melbourne in August, as well as in two private events announced as a “solidarity tour to show support for the Jewish community in Australia”, as reported by the newspaper Guardian Australia, quoted by Hispantv.
Australian Home Secretary Tony Burke confirmed that Rothman's visa application had been rejected and that he would not be able to apply for it for three years.
According to Burke's statements, the decision was made because of the Israeli legislator's record of fomenting hate. “Our government takes a hard line against those who try to come to our country and sow division,” details the statement issued by the Interior Minister.
Rothman is a staunch opponent of the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state, he called for the occupation of the Gaza Strip, the expulsion of all Palestinian citizens from the coastal enclave and the re-establishment of illegal Israeli settlements in the territory.
