The Venezuelan Bárbara Palacios
won the gold medal
in the III IBSA 2024 World Chess Championship for the Blind,
which was held in the city of Petrovac, Montenegro.
Palacios tied the
ninth game with
Ari Tonteri from Finland,
and became the highest-placed woman in the final standings.
The Venezuelan woman was closely persecuted by the Finnish woman Temmu
Ruohonen, according to
the Ministry of Sports press.
The World Cup
was played under the Swiss system, so the title was defined
in 9 rounds, with the participation of representatives from 13 countries.
For his part, Harlen Otero, also from
Venezuela, ranked fifth in the competition, after falling to the Hungarian Zoltan
Zambo.
