On the 206th anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá, the Venezuelan people celebrate another of the great victories of the Father of the Fatherland, Simon Bolivar, with whom he broke the spine of the Spanish empire to seal the independence of New Granada, today the sister Republic of Colombia.
On August 7, 1819, under the command of 2,850 patriots, the Liberator Simon Bolivar inflicted a decisive and important defeat against the royalist troops of Colonel José María Barreiro, achieving, in addition to the emancipation of Colombia, an important step forward for the withdrawal of the Spanish from Venezuela and the liberation of South America.
With a strategy that lasted months -161 days since Angostura -, Bolívar followed in the footsteps of his rival and finally surprised him in Boyacá, where patriots surrounded the realist army like a ring of fire and they had no choice but to surrender, according to historical accounts.
In this battle, Bolívar rewarded the New Grenadians for the troops they had provided him in 1813 to achieve the liberation of Venezuela through the Admirable Campaign, sealing the independence of New Granada, commanding a multinational freedom army composed of Venezuelans, Colombians, English, French and Haitians.
The Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people assume as their own, together with the brother Colombian people, this great celebration of the emancipatory feat of the Liberator, a patriotic victory, one of the most important for the Great Homeland.
