The governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, lamented the acts of violence that occurred in the border area on the Colombian side, where there were attacks on police facilities and the Villa del Rosario toll booth.

“We are very concerned about the unfortunate state of war that Norte de Santander is in,” he said.

The attack with explosives and long weapons at the police station of La Parada, a border municipality of Villa del Rosario, and an explosion that occurred simultaneously at the toll booth in the same town forced the governor of Norte de Santander, William Villamizar, and the mayor of Cúcuta, Jorge Acevedo, to declare a curfew from 7:00pm to 6:00am and the suspension of classes throughout the metropolitan area, which includes Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario, Zulia and Los Patios.

On the Venezuelan side, Bernal indicated that security has been reinforced along the 164 kilometers of border with Colombia.

“We regret that various armed groups are confronted in the North of Santander, and we always yearn for peace from Venezuela. President Nicolás Maduro has always reached out his hands to help as much as he can in matters of peace. This is an exclusively Colombian problem,” he said.

In Táchira, specifically in the Venezuelan border area through San Antonio, Ureña and Boca de Grita, there is tranquility, harmony and peace, “total security, for merchants, students, businessmen for domestic and foreign investment,” he concluded.
