Given the intense rainfall recorded in various regions of Venezuela over the past 72 hours, public security agencies, including Civil Protection (PC), have deployed officials to monitor risk areas and deal with emergencies resulting from increased flow in rivers and tributaries.
Among the main incidents reported, there were partial collapses on the Trasandina highway, in areas bordering the state of Barinas, where Civil Protection teams from Mérida and Barinas, together with the Ministry of Transport and the National Institute of Land Traffic, mobilized machinery to clear the road.
In addition, on the Local Road 008, between Mérida and El Vigía, the landslides were treated with the support of the Autonomous Toll and Road Service of the State of Mérida (SAPVEM).
The rains have also caused flooding in sectors of the Valera municipality, Trujillo state, due to the overflow of streams and accumulation of rocky material. In Boconó and other towns in Trujillo, inspections and clearance work have been carried out on various affected roads. Meanwhile, in the Portuguese state, monitoring has intensified in the face of increased river flow, and early warning protocols have been activated in vulnerable areas such as Guanare and Unda.
The director of PC in Portuguesa, Daniel Márquez, called on the people close to the channels to stay informed and follow the recommendations of security agencies, in order to reduce risks and guarantee the integrity of citizens, according to a press release from International Media.
