From the headquarters of the Ministry of Popular Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace (MPPRIJP), the Deputy Minister of Prevention, Citizen Security and Peace Quadrants, Endes Palencia, held a working meeting with the purpose of evaluating and consolidating strategies in the statistical system of the Venezuelan Observatory of Citizen Security (OVS).
Palencia, asserted that this activity was carried out with the purpose of strengthening information collection systems between institutions to improve the accuracy and usefulness of security statistics in the country, as well as the processes for decision-making and the design of more effective strategic actions.
In this regard, he explained that this entity was created on April 3, 2012, at the initiative of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías, which gave a more scientific approach to issues related to citizen security, based on the studies and monitoring involved in this matter.
In addition, he highlighted that the OVS is a Venezuelan institution that collects and processes data, analyzes criminal trends, identifies patterns and evaluates the effectiveness of security measures, and then issues recommendations as part of public policy based on data through reliable sources of information from the different citizen security bodies, MPPRIJP press reports.
For his part, the deputy director of the Minister's Office, Jesús Bonilla Camacho, issued instructions to the officials that make up this entity to work together to improve the quality of the data, as well as to streamline the way in which they are collected to facilitate effective comparison.
Meanwhile, the general director of the OVS, Jesús Escobar, stressed that it is important to visualize oneself in the context of homogeneity, standardization and normalization of variables, so that, as a single body, the database or the statistical values derived from the treatment are constituted to underpin decision-making and the definition of courses of action.
