The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Bolivia officially announced that the 2025 general elections will be held on August 17.

The decision outlined by the Telesur Portal was announced by the president of the said organization, Oscar Hassenteufel, during a recess at the meeting of the Plenary Room, held in the city of Santa Cruz.

The TSE opted for August 17 for organizational reasons, because, if a second round was needed, it would take place in October in accordance with electoral regulations.

Hassenteufel said: “The objective is to consider and address some issues that are part of the concerns of the Electoral Body with a view to the general elections in August 2025. What interests us fundamentally is to consider a shield, as we have been talking about, of that electoral process, so that it begins, develops and ends within the deadlines established by legal regulations and without any interference”.

This commitment was ratified at a previous meeting between members of the TSE and magistrates of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP), who through a joint statement supported the stability of the electoral and constitutional system.

The TSE is also working on the new electoral cartography, based on Law 1614 on the Distribution of Seats between Departments, which uses data from the 2024 Population and Housing Census. Under this law, Santa Cruz will win a plurinominal seat with 29 deputies, while Chuquisaca will lose one deputy, leaving with 9. In the other regions, there are no changes.
