This Thursday, through the state National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the Government of Brazil approved the project of the new Climate Fund, which will have 10,400 million reais, equivalent to 2,90 million dollars to finance measures to combat climate change.

“The new Climate Fund is an example of the confluence of the three major Government initiatives. There is urban mobility, there is greener industry and there is forest recovery and investment in renewable energy, which are in the Ecological Transition Plan,” said Nelson Barbosa, director of Project Planning and Structuring at BNDES, in a press release.

In this regard, he explained that part of the funds, according to the BNDES, come from raising 2 billion dollars abroad with sustainable sovereign bonds launched by the Ministry of Finance. The bonds were intended to help finance actions to preserve the environment, mitigate climate change and conservation, according to the Xinhua press release.
