The Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, stated that Commander Hugo Chávez became the voice of the Peoples of the world, speaking out against imperialism at a time when other governments were silent.

During the program Sin Truco Ni Maña, Cabello recalled that the revolutionary leader's speeches transcended the communication field. “They were a communication class, a geopolitics class, a history class and a human values class,” he said.

He recalled that on one occasion, when showing Chávez a newspaper with images of child victims of the war in Afghanistan, the Commander decided to leave aside all the content prepared in the Aló Presidente and focused his speech on denouncing the terror they were suffering in that Central Asian nation at the time. “He said, 'See you on the show. ' And it came only with that newspaper and the indignation that any human being should feel,” he said.

Cabello highlighted that this experience marked the route to Chávez's emblematic speech to the United Nations (UN), when he uttered the phrase: “It smells like sulfur here”, in clear reference to United States policies. Since then, he said, he became a tireless defender of the Peoples of the South.

“The Commander was already asking us for things that are of this time,” he added, referring to the validity of his thinking and his sensitivity to global injustices.
