The Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, reported that the recently dismantled criminal group, in Puerto Santo, Sucre state, was used by the right wing to plan and execute terrorist actions in the country.
During a press conference held this Tuesday, Cabello indicated that this gang, dedicated to drug trafficking, had a significant batch of weapons seized, including light machine guns, grenade launchers, 40 mm grenades, detonators, explosives, and others.
“Remember that longliners (linked to the opposition), who work with drug trafficking, tried to make a scandal, saying that the people of Puerto Santo had stood up against ill-treatment. No, a gang dedicated to drug trafficking and being used for political purposes was being dismantled. Those weapons that we seized from him weren't for drug trafficking, they were for carrying out terrorist attacks,” he said.
In this regard, Cabello explained that these actions are linked to other terrorist plans that have recently been dismantled. “This investigation continues, because we are following up on a batch of weapons that they had already brought. Among those weapons they brought was a .50 machine gun. A caliber capable of penetrating steel and has come to be used as anti-aircraft fire, to shoot down planes,” he explained.
