The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, reaffirmed on Monday that the releases are part of “a process of national reconciliation, ensuring peace in our country.”

In this regard, during the PSUV press conference, he indicated that “ those who commit murders, drug trafficking, attacks on children, rapes are totally exempt or excluded from these measures,” stressing that each of the cases of the people involved is reviewed.

He stated that this process has nothing to do with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), on the contrary, he indicated that it was a decision taken by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in the month of December.

“On the 24th a group of people came out and on the 31st a group of people came out as part of the president's measures and what has been given is continuity to a decision that President Nicolás Maduro had taken,” he said.

He pointed out that he emphasizes clarification, since the “misnamed NGOs are charging family members, of whom they have been released, 'not thanks to us'. Thanks to them? If NGOs do anything, it is to throw straw at the detainees so that they don't come out, because that's where they get money from outside,” he said.
