The
general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello
Rondón, highlighted on Monday the demand of the country's indigenous peoples
since the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez, who recognized their rights
in the Constitution of the Republic.
During the usual weekly press conference of the
red awning, Cabello recalled that indigenous
communities are not represented in the Magna Carta of 1961, “but if you look for it in the Constitution of 99 there is a whole
space dedicated to the recognition of native peoples. An initiative of Commander
Hugo Chávez”.
In this regard, he stressed that “today our
original peoples have recognition. They choose their deputies to the Assembly here
by their methods, their councilors by their methods. Here we have a governor and
here is the Minister, the indigenous peoples are here.”
“Our native peoples know that there is a before and
after Hugo Chávez. They're organized, really organized. But
they are also united in a great force. Even united beyond what the Revolution is,” said
Cabello.
