The Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, confirmed that this Thursday, February 27, the revolutionary Venezuelan people will mobilize to commemorate the 36th Anniversary of the popular rebellion of 1989, known as “El Caracazo”.

During his Con El Mazo Dando program, in issue number 517, he detailed a set of measures against the welfare of the People, including the measures of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the economic policies of the government of the time, chaired by Carlos Andrés Pérez, which led Venezuelan women and Venezuelans to raise their protest.

Cabello recalled that with these measures “they tried to subdue the People, through the orders of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, multilateral organizations, and neoliberalism.”

“They applied a dose to Venezuela, as a laboratory, then, a dose of privatizations, an increase (price) of services, of gasoline, a reduction in public spending that they called (fourth Republic), freezing of salaries for all workers and workers, price release,” he said.

In that scenario, he emphasized that “this people reacted as rebel peoples react”.

“The next protests over the neoliberal measures occurred 10 years later,” he said.

Cabello pointed out that in a thousand ways they have tried to subdue the Venezuelan people, “they have not been able to, they have tried assassinations, to surrender because of hunger, coups of states, invasions.”
