457 years ago, in Venezuela, the fierce and courageous spirit in defense of sovereignty and the indigenous people, against European colonialism, became immortal, when on November 5, 1568, according to the date that historians indicate, Cacique Guaicaipura died.
At just 20 years old, he became Cacique, a title with which he raised his war cry to the point of giving his life against the Spanish Empire, who were exploiting gold mines in Venezuelan lands.
Guaicaipura fought great battles against the colonialists and his vision of the necessary unity in the face of the enemy led him to form the strategic alliance of all the chiefs of the region consisting of Baruta, Naiguatá, Chacao, Aramaipura, Guaicamacuto, Paramaconi, Terepaima and Chicuramay, who were successful for years.
The Spanish conqueror Diego de Losada ordered his capture in his attempt to seize Caracas (capital) and his soldiers tried to enter Guaicaipura's house, but he prevented them from doing so.
Lozada applied another strategy and ordered to set fire to the house of the Cacique, who, seeing that his death would be inevitable, decided to die before humiliating the invaders and showing cowardice in front of his people. He chose to immolate himself and died in the flames of his own shack.
