The United Nations
(UN) Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) unanimously selected Caracas as the
venue for the Caribbean Regional Seminar, which will take place from May 14 to 16 of this year.
“This event will bring together international delegations to
discuss fundamental issues of the new multipolar world, such as the
decolonial struggle and the self-determination of peoples,” said the Minister of Popular
Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, through his account on the social network X.
The Foreign Minister stressed that “in the last 25 years of the Bolivarian
Revolution, Venezuela has been a prominent example of
decolonization and despite current aggressions and threats, we continue
to defend our sovereignty with determination.”
He concluded by stating that Venezuela is honored to welcome
communities from all over the world to exchange experiences and work together for the liberation of all peoples.
The C-24 has been organizing regional seminars
alternately in the Caribbean and the Pacific, with the purpose of obtaining the
opinions of representatives of Non-Self-Governing Territories, experts in the
field, members of civil society, member States and other stakeholders
so that they can contribute, together with the Committee, to determining policy approaches
promoted by the United Nations.
