The traditional burning of Judas is a cultural manifestation that year after year takes place every Easter Sunday, an activity that has become a true Intangible Cultural Heritage of Caracas that is represented in El Cementerio, San Agustín or Petare.
During the celebration, there are different activities that include musical performances, sports competitions, cultural talents and traditional games, which enrich this cultural heritage and strengthen community ties.
In the parish of San Agustín, cardboard and cloth figures of foreign characters were burned that today represent the anti-values of life and respect for human rights, including Donald Trump and Nayib Bukele
It is important to note that the burning of Judas Iscariot represents the symbolic punishment for treason, and the surrender to Jesus Christ in exchange for thirty silver coins. In Venezuela, this figure has been reinterpreted over the years with characters who have committed some serious offence.
