Right-handed slugger Carlos Rivero announced his retirement as an active professional player after a professional career that spanned two decades, in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
In a statement posted on social media, Rivero, 38, said: “Today, with a heart full of mixed emotions, I want to officially announce my retirement as a professional baseball player.”
He said that they were 20 years of learning, sacrifices and dreams fulfilled in this beautiful sport that has given him so much. “Today I close this chapter with the satisfaction of having given everything every time I set foot on the pitch,” he said.
He thanked all the coaches, coaches and teammates who did their bit to the development of his career and to every organization that trusted his talent and gave him the opportunity to proudly represent their colors.
In the LVBP, he played 14 seasons, managing to hit 88 home runs, to take ninth place among the Venezuelan players with the most homers.
Since the native of Barquisimeto made his debut in the LVBP, in the 2011-2012 campaign with the Caracas Lions, the first of the five teams he played for, no other shoveler has sent more home runs than him. He beat his most immediate stalker in that period, Balbino Fuenmayor, by 11 hits, according to the LVBP press.
After playing two seasons with the Lions, third baseman went to the Margarita Braves in exchange for right starter Fernando Nieve. With the insulting team, he was only in the 2013-2014 contest, before being sent along with the waiter César Hernández by fellow slugger Luis Jiménez and infielder Mario Martínez to the Cardinals of Lara, where he marked an era.
With the Red Birds, he played eight contests, won the two-time championship (2018-2019 and 2019-2020) and dispatched 57 hits in the full lap, the fourth highest number in the franchise's records
Already in 2022, he moved to the Tigres de Aragua in exchange for outfielder Odúbel Herrera and in 2024 he was acquired by the Tiburones de La Guaira in a cambalache involving eight baseball players, including the grandeligas Willson Contreras and Ezequiel Tovar.
