This Tuesday, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) reiterated its call to eliminate the blockade implemented by the United States (USA) against Cuba, which has been hampering its development for more than six decades.

CELAC expressed the firm support of the member nations of the mechanism for the draft resolution presented by Havana, and stated that the application of coercive and unilateral measures not supported by international law, the letter, the spirit or the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) charter is inconsistent.

The document cited by Prensa Latina establishes rights, obligations and principles that became part of the legal heritage of humanity, as well as of international law.

“No member should contravene or undermine them; member states must modify their national and international actions in accordance with the rights, obligations and principles established in the charter,” he emphasized.

CELAC recalled the block's special declaration approved in March of this year at the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where they asked Washington to comply with the General Assembly resolutions presented by Cuba to put an end to the siege.
