Moscow is willing to negotiate to resolve the conflict over Ukraine, as long as they address the root causes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Sputnik.
“We are ready for negotiations, but they must focus on eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and taking into account the real situation on the ground,” Lavrov said.
The foreign minister recalled that Russia's approaches to solving the Ukrainian crisis were outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his speech on June 14, as well as during the direct line with citizens on December 19.
“It's mainly about the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, guarantees of its non-aligned, neutral and non-nuclear status, the elimination of long-term threats to Russia's security that come from the West, including the expansion of NATO,” Lavrov said.
