The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, in response to the recent statements of the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, stated that his actions reflect a distorted vision of reality and a lack of understanding of events in Latin America.
“Boric is a piece bought by the United States,” he said in a post on his account on the social network Telegram.
He stressed that Boric has been influenced by interests outside the desires of the Peoples of our region, which is why he has become a submissive pawn of North American imperialism, which questions its independence and commitment to democratic values.
Gil recalled the importance of historical figures such as Salvador Allende and stressed the need for leaders committed to social justice and national sovereignty.
In contrast, he considered that Boric's actions have made him an object of ridicule on the continent, rather than a respected leader. “How much is a Salvador Allende needed in Chile,” he said.
The foreign minister urged Chile to remember its past under the Pinochet dictatorship and the impact of neoliberalism on the economy and workers' rights.
“Today, Boric goes from being the laughingstock of a continent, to the most submissive pawn of North American imperialism, the same one who ordered to strangle Chile's economy and then impose Pinochet's dictatorship with blood and fire and install a neoliberal economic regime,” he said.
