The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) reported nine fires in combat in different parts of Chile, three of them of great complexity, and announced the activation of the red alert button in 140 communes.

The published balance sheet indicates that the most critical situation is in the central region of O'Higgins, where two accidents affect the population, international press reported.

In Pichidegua, nearly 400 people were evacuated, the fire destroyed two houses, consumed 751 hectares and a communal red alert was established. Meanwhile, in Litueche, the fire destroyed 765 hectares and the population is in a yellow phase, which indicates caution, but not imminent danger. In the Maule region, on the hill of the same name, 1,127 hectares were devastated and the highest alert remains for the inhabitants of the place.

Until December 30, CONAF activated the red button in 144 communes, a preventive tool that is applied when the probability of a fire is equal to or greater than 70 percent.
