Huawei and China Unicom have launched a 10 gigabits per second broadband service, based on 50G-PON technology.

The initiative, called Digital China, seeks to install high-speed optical infrastructure in a hundred regions of the Asian country by 2025.

The system allows transfer rates of 9,834 Mbps in download and 1,008 Mbps in sending, with a latency of three milliseconds, which facilitates access to high-volume audiovisual content. Its application ranges from entertainment in advanced formats to the development of extended reality environments, cities with interconnected systems and autonomous vehicles. In addition, its use in remote medical procedures is contemplated, according to a press release from the RT agency.

Beijing was the first city to pilot test the service, followed by Xiong'an, in Hebei, as well as Jiaozuo, Mengzhou and several locations in Rizhao. The expansion reached the Luotian Intelligent Agricultural Park on Monday, where technology is implemented to optimize product monitoring, process automation and digitalization in production.
