The delegations of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation warned, within the framework of the United Nations (UN) Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, that the United States (USA) and its Western allies maintain a strategy of blockade and defamation to prevent real progress in the control of nuclear weapons.
The Chinese ambassador for disarmament issues, Shen Jian, called Washington's accusations about alleged explosive tests by Beijing “totally unfounded”.
The diplomat explained that these statements are a “fabricated excuse” to justify the possible resumption of nuclear tests by the US Government, Telesur said.
Tension increased after statements by the US Undersecretary of State, Christopher Yeaw, who stated that China's arsenal is growing in an “opaque” way. However, international experts and previous reports from monitoring bodies have discredited these versions, pointing out that there is no evidence of clandestine Chinese evidence.
Military analyst Zhang Junshe explained that Washington is trying to force China to enter into multilateral negotiations with a clear objective: to limit Chinese self-defense forces while the US modernizes and expands its own weapons, weakening treaties such as the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
