China backed Venezuela's request to convene an urgent meeting at the UN Security Council

The Government of China expressed its support for Venezuela's request to urgently convene a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UN), following recent threats from the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, said that his country rejects any form of unilateral pressure and supports States in defending their sovereignty. He also stressed that Venezuela maintains the right to establish cooperative relations with other nations based on its own interests.

According to the International Media, Guo stressed that the international community recognizes the Venezuelan position in the protection of its legitimate rights and in the search for mechanisms that guarantee respect for international law.

Venezuela formalized at the UN the request for an urgent meeting of the Security Council to demand the restoration of the principles established in the Charter of the United Nations and to denounce actions that it considers contrary to the international legal order.
