China condemns US hijacking of Venezuelan ships

The Government of China rejected the seizure of ships with Venezuelan oil carried out by the United States.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, stated that “the arbitrary confiscation of ships from other countries constitutes a serious violation of international law.”
The Chinese diplomat stressed that Venezuela has the right to cooperate freely in energy matters and has affirmed that the international community supports the defense of its legitimate interests.
The statements come after the announcement by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to block and confiscate merchant ships linked to the oil trade with Caracas, a measure that Venezuela has described as a provocation aimed at destabilizing the region.
