China deploys rescue teams in Tibet after a flood on the border with Nepal

The government of the People's Republic of China deployed rescue and relief contingents in the Tibet Autonomous Region to address the emergency caused by the destructive flood that occurred on the border with Nepal. Immediate actions focus on locating missing persons and providing assistance to communities affected by abrupt river flooding.

Relief work is taking place in areas adjacent to the Nepalese district of Rasuwa, where the increase in the flow of the Bhotekoshi River caused the collapse of road sections, bridges and houses. Faced with the magnitude of the impact, the authorities mobilized medical personnel, fire departments and heavy machinery to enable land access blocked by sediments.

The phenomenon, caused by the fracture of a glacial structure on the Chinese slope, has left severe material damage and fatalities on both sides of the border. Given the complexity of the terrain, emergency teams are working continuously in coordination with local authorities to speed up tracking at critical overflow points.

Risk management specialists and geological engineers carry out overflights and monitoring in the upper basin to assess the stability of glacial lakes and identify possible secondary landslides. Rescue devices and humanitarian assistance will continue to be deployed on the border strip as long as the contingency situation persists.
