The People's Republic of China kicked off National Reading Week on Monday, a strategic platform designed to promote reading habits and position the Asian giant as a cutting-edge cultural power.

The official inauguration took place in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province, where the fifth edition of the National Conference was held under a vision that links the intellectual development of citizenship with the strengthening of the country's national identity and international prestige.

The event was attended by Li Shulei, head of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who led debates on the future of literacy and content consumption in the nation.

During the meeting, attendees made an urgent call to redouble efforts to integrate reading into the daily life of all sectors of society, promoting an environment where access to books is a fundamental pillar for social cohesion and intellectual progress.

In this regard, government authorities, quoted by the Xinhua news agency, agreed that infrastructure is key to achieving these goals. The critical need to improve the development and management of public reading facilities, from municipal libraries to digital spaces, was emphasized, ensuring that service standards are modernized to meet the demands of a society that is increasingly connected and eager for knowledge.

National Reading Week is projected not only as an internal celebration, but as a message to the world about China's commitment to education and culture.

By elevating reading to a State priority, the country seeks to inspire new generations through a robust “reading culture”, ensuring that the economic growth of the Asian giant is supported by a solid, sustainable cultural base deeply rooted in its history and vision for the future.
