The Government of the People's Republic of China implemented new restrictions on access and supply of “rare earths”, minerals that are essential and difficult to replace within the global technological and defense value chain. This measure marks a turning point in the control of strategic resources essential for the manufacture of high-tech components.

The Beijing decision is interpreted internationally as a strategic response to the current trade and geopolitical dispute. With this action, the Asian country demonstrates its hegemony in a key industrial sector, where the supply and processing capacity of competitors such as the United States (USA) is significantly lagging behind.

The limitations imposed highlight the vulnerability and deep global dependence on these critical materials, which are essential for the development of advanced weapons, electronic devices and clean energy technologies. The contraction in supply threatens to alter production costs and generate delays in several cutting-edge industries.

This measure of control by China introduces new pressures on the international economy and reconfigures the global security landscape. Faced with this scenario, international markets and Western powers are forced to accelerate the search for alternative sources of supply to mitigate the impact of restrictions on their production chains.
