The Chinese government strongly urged the United States to refrain from implementing negative provisions against the Asian giant in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 just enacted by the United States.
In this regard, Xu Dong, spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress of China, expressed the rejection of the negative content against that nation that is reflected in the aforementioned North American legal text.
The spokesman, as reported by the Xinhua agency, criticized that the law repeats the usual rhetoric of containing the Asian giant, exaggerating the “Chinese threat” and blatantly interfering in internal affairs, undermining China's core interests.
“We urge the U.S. side to view China's development and China-U.S. relations objectively and rationally, to work with China in the same direction, and to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of China and the United States at the Busan meeting,” Xu said.
Xu also stressed that, if the United States insists on proceeding unilaterally, China will take firm measures in accordance with the law to resolutely safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests.
