The National Art Gallery (GAN) inaugurated the group exhibition “From mural to textile. Material, Technique and Message”, an exhibition that explores the rich connection between urban art and ancient textile techniques.
According to information from the Ministry for Culture, the exhibition presents
works by visual artists Virginia Altuve, Dexi Borjas and Jefferson Parra,
members of the artistic collective Fuga.
These
creators used patchwork and quilt, techniques that consist of
assembling scraps of fabric, to create compositions that reinterpret the
aesthetics of murals through an intimate language full of textures.
During
the inauguration, the Deputy Minister of Culture for the Image and
Space Arts, and president of the National Museums Foundation (FMN), Mary Pemjean,
highlighted the importance of the exhibition as an opportunity to showcase Venezuela's creative capacity.
“It's
being able to show the world that we are capable of having a cultural strength and our own
identity, the defense of what we are,” he said.
For her part, the co-founder of Fuga, Virginia Altuve, explained how the collective seeks to elevate the vision of the textile by giving it an artistic character. At the same time, he emphasized that this exhibition is the result of interpreting mural work in a more intimate format, which allows us to appreciate sensations, textures and finishes in a different way than urban work.
