The Colombian Military Forces confirmed this Thursday the successful rescue of five people who remained missing after a terrorist attack perpetrated by dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, People's Army (FARC) in the village of La Paila, located in the municipality of Corinto, Cauca.
The emergency originated when the armed group intercepted and attacked a vehicle in the area, a violent act that unfortunately left the result of a dead person. Faced with the intensity of the aggression and the imminent risk, the civilians managed to escape the car to protect themselves from the projectiles.
In an act of survival, the citizens decided to hide in the extensive sugar cane fields that surround the region, where they remained incommunicado and out of the reach of the attackers for several hours.
This situation immediately triggered an operational deployment by the military units deployed in the department of Cauca, with the objective of locating the survivors before they were intercepted again by criminal structures operating in the sector.
The location of the missing was possible thanks to the strategic use of advanced technology, specifically through the use of Scan Eagle unmanned aerial systems.
These surveillance aircraft made it possible to carry out a thermal and visual scan of the thick vegetation of the canaduzales, managing to identify the exact position of the five people. The precision of these technological tools was critical in guiding ground troops safely and efficiently to the extraction point.
After the rescue, the victims were brought to safety and received the first medical evaluations by combat nurses to verify their health status.
The military commander reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the offensive in the southwest of the country, intensifying operations to find out the whereabouts of those responsible for this attack and to strengthen the security of the inhabitants and bystanders who travel along the roads of northern Cauca.
