This Wednesday, in Colombia, the Central Unitary of Workers (CUT), which brings together the main labor unions, confederations of pensioners and social organizations, confirmed their call for a national day of protest that they announced since the first days of demonstrations in the country.

The main objective of the demonstrations will be to support the popular consultation promoted by the Government to modify labor legislation. Some mobilized sectors warn that the violent attacks that have shaken Colombia in recent days are intended to divert attention from advances in social transformations to prevent them from taking place.

The conveners denounce that the labor reform text approved by the Fourth Committee of the Senate is a “counter-reform” that jeopardizes labor rights won for years.

Among their main criticisms are the legalization of working hours longer than 8 hours under the modality of 4 days a week, the elimination of the apprenticeship contract and the permanence of union contracts that they consider fraudulent.
