Last Tuesday, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, together with members of his cabinet, signed the request of the National Constituent Assembly in the midst of a Council of Ministers held in the city of Cartagena.

The process, already under way after the registration of its sponsoring committee with the Registrar's Office, would seek to introduce social transformations needed by the people, according to the Colombian president.

Petro clarified that the process of citizen participation would not occur during electoral times, because signatures will first be collected to support the request of the constituent, which must number more than 2.5 million citizens.
