The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, considered that an emergency process merits because the current rains will not bring the Chingaza reservoir to its normal levels before the dry season in January.

“I propose to decree the disaster situation, to combine national, district and municipal budgets with community actions and building associations, to start contracting permanent systems of permanent rainwater collection systems for use in household cleaning and other things that do not need drinking water,” said Petro.

The president of New Granada stressed that long-term measures can begin to be implemented, including the revitalization of the Amazon rainforest to its western edge, discouraging urban expansion, and the improvement of the Bogotá River.
