The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, publicly denounced the existence of an alleged plan between sectors of the right wing of his country and the government of Ecuador, headed by Daniel Noboa, as detailed by Telesur.

According to the head of state, this alliance would have as its main objective to interfere in the development of the next general elections, which are scheduled to be held on May 31.

The accusation was announced during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Ipiales. During the meeting, the Colombian ambassador to Ecuador, María Antonia Velasco, presented a detailed report on various activities that she described as unusual within the diplomatic and political scene between the two neighboring nations in recent weeks.

Velasco specifically noted a series of visits by opposition political leaders to the Carondelet Palace, headquarters of the Ecuadorian Executive Branch. In her statement, the diplomat stressed that these meetings coincide with moments of commercial tension, suggesting a possible coordination that seeks to destabilize the electoral process through external links and direct political pressure.

To support the complaint, the presence of former President Álvaro Uribe was mentioned at the headquarters of the Ecuadorian government just days before the imposition of new tariffs. The Colombian administration believes that these movements represent strange coincidences that merit institutional surveillance to neutralize any attempt at manipulation that affects the sovereignty of the citizen vote.
