The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, assured this Friday, April 17, that Adolf Hitler's thinking has been revived in Europe through racial hatred of foreigners. During an interview with Spanish public media, the president explained that this narrative is currently used by sectors of the extreme right to capitalize votes by stigmatizing migrant populations.

The head of state warned that contemporary xenophobia is not generalized against any immigrant, but is applied selectively according to the color of people's skin.

Petro was emphatic in pointing out that this type of discrimination represents the return of the extremist ideologies that marked the 20th century, warning about the danger that these positions represent for peace in the continent.

“That's called Hitler. That's Hitler. Hitler is alive again in Europe and wants to send bombers to bomb European cities,” said the president during his speech.

The Colombian president directly linked the rise of radical movements to a real risk of armed violence and a regression in the democratic values of Western nations.

The Colombian president defended cultural diversity as the greatest source of wealth for modern societies in the face of discourses of exclusion. Petro urged international institutions to recognize these warning signs to prevent racial hatred from consolidating itself as an acceptable political strategy on the global stage.
