The Government of Colombia “vigorously” rejected the recent statements of the Argentine president, Javier Milei, in which he described his counterpart from New Granada as “a lethal plague”.

In a statement, Colombia classified the words of Milei as “irresponsible”, who, in the past few days, assured an NTN24 journalist that President Gustavo Petro “was destroying Colombians”.

“Colombia rejects these disrespectful statements, which are presented in a repetitive manner, which deteriorate the historic ties of friendship between the two nations and represent an offense to the dignity of the president of the Republic of Colombia democratically elected by the people of Colombia,” reads the statement from the Foreign Ministry.

As the RT agency recalled, this is not the first time that the Argentine president has attacked Petro. Last month, in an interview with journalist Patricia Janiot, Milei gave his opinion on different Latin American leaders and harshly attacked his Colombian counterpart, calling him a “murderous communist who is sinking Colombia”.

After his statements, Bogotá announced that he called “immediately” for inquiries to his ambassador to Argentina, Camilo Romero.
